Also called “drinking vinegar”
Ingredients
- 1 lb fruits and berries
- 1 c sugar
- 1 c water
- optional: add a bit of lemon juice and/or vinegar
- optional: add spices (e.g., cinammon) or herbs (e.g., basil)
Method
- bring to boil and simmer for 20-30 min
- add 4-6 oz organic cider vinegar
- strain twice through wire mesh strainers into flip top bottles or mason jars
Usage
Mix with soda water or regular water, or take straight by the tablespoon or shot.
Variations
- Experiment with different fruits and berries.
- Try different mixtures, e.g., mix red and black berries, mix in citrus/apple
- Add aromatics like citrus zest, ginger, chili, pepper
- Try proportions of different vinegars, esp balsamics
Good Recipes
Mixed berry
- 12 oz raspberries
- 6 oz strawberries, sliced
- 1 apple, cored and chopped
- 1 orange, peeled and chopped
- 2 sticks cinammon
- 1 c sugar
- 1 1/2 c water
- 2 T lemon juice
- 1 T cider
Cook 35 minutes, add 1 oz lemon juice and 4 oz cider, strain into bottle
