Brown Sugar Syrup

Sources

Ingredients

  • 120 g (.5c) water
  • 213 g (1c) brown sugar
  • 56 g (4T) butter
  • 1/4 t salt (if using unsalted butter)
  • 1/4 t vanilla extract

Method

  • Stir the water and brown sugar together in a saucepan.

  • Heat on medium high and stir until the sugar is melted and the mixture comes to a boil.

  • Boil on medium heat for 4-5 minutes. (Cook longer for a thicker result.)

  • Reduce heat to low and whisk in the butter, 1T at a time, until the butter is melted completely.

  • Stir in the vanilla extract

  • Remove pan from heat and let it rest for five minutes before pouring it into a heatproof container.

  • Store leftover syrup in a tightly closed canning jar in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Notes

To Reheat Leftover Syrup

  • Place the closed jar in hot water until it flows freely, 5-10 minutes.
